Zach and his brother Mason |
Zach is like other any other 6yr old child in many ways. He loves to play outside, to jump on the trampoline, swim and he loves Elmo, the difference is Zach was born with Autism. He has very little speech and limited understanding. Zach lives in a world all his own, he has no concept of danger or fear of things such as traffic, stangers or large bodies of water. He lack of commucation skills can make life very frustrating for Zach and our family. This is where 4Paws can help, they will provide Zach with an autism assitance dog. This dog will be trained in search and rescue, to comfort Zach when having an melt down and would also be his friend, making it easier for other children to accept Zach and make friends. The dog will also be trained to accompany Zach everywhere we go. Zach will attached to the dog by a special harness making him unable to run away or get lost, but also giving him more independence.
MEET JAXON! Check out photos from the trip here.
Hello! My name is Jaxon and I was born 8-23-2006. I am almost a year old and they told me that I get to celebrate my birthday with you! How cool is that! I am a boy and I am they think a Golden mix or maybe a Newfoundland mix. Regardless I am a sort of big guy with black hair that is like a Golden Retriever. I know because there are some Golden's here and besides being Gold they look sort of like me. I came to 4 Paws from a shelter called Animal Friends and I have been training for what seems like forever to be a service dog. My most favorite game is tracking and they say my best quality is tolerance. We were having this, oh you know, share your strengths and weaknesses day and everyone said my asset was tolerance. I won't share my weakness because they said none of us have any! I want to play ball with you. I want to sleep in your room. I want to be your best friend. I want to play the tracking game with you and discover hotdogs at the end. They are not really "hot" "dogs" they just call them that. Why? I have no idea because I think they are made from Turkeys you know the gobble gobble gooble kind that people eat on Thanksgiving. I love Nylabones and Kongs, especially when someone puts peanut butter in the Kong. I saw your video and am so excited. Are you excited too? Hurry up and come to Ohio!
Thanks for helping us, we are going to Ohio!!!
August 6 - August 17

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us with our fund raising efforts. We never realized how many wonderful people there are in this world. Without all of your help and assistance we would not be going to Ohio to get Zach's new friend. We are so excited about all of the opportunities this is going to bring to Zach and our family. Words cannot express how much we appreciate all the has been done for us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Love - Holly, Neal, Zach, Mason and Whitney
